Scientific lecture series of the PharmaMar Foundation return: a journey through history, health, and the future.
Madrid, February 25, 2025 – Following the success of the first two editions, the PharmaMar Foundation is once again launching its series of scientific conferences aimed at the general public. True to its commitment to scientific dissemination, this year, it will offer a rigorous, accessible, and updated look at the latest advances in oncology, the evolution of science, and its impact on society.
This third edition, which begins in March and will run throughout the year, will once again feature the participation of prestigious experts in each field and will address highly relevant topics such as the biology of cancer and its causes, the role of vitamin D in health and its relationship with cancer, as well as the latest discoveries about Atlantis and the reality behind its myths, among others.
As in previous editions, the talks will be held in Madrid in person, but they can also be followed live via streaming. Registration to attend these talks is now available and is completely free. What is Cancer?

Speaker: Prof. Alberto Muñoz, CSIC Research Professor and President of the HM Hospitales Research Foundation. The conference will focus on providing a clear and accessible understanding of cancer, explaining its origin, processes, and stages, as well as its various manifestations, known causes, and the impact of genetic and environmental factors. The goal is to demystify this complex and challenging disease, which affects millions of people worldwide, by providing well-founded and accessible information to attendees.
Atlantis – Between Myth and Reality
Date: April 8, 2025

Speakers:
- Michael Donellan, archaeologist and documentarian.
- José Orihuela Guerrero, philosopher and anthropologist.
- Manuel Pimentel, editor, writer, and presenter of Arqueomania on TVE2.
The event analyzes Plato’s account of Atlantis from a scientific perspective, considering the possibility that it is real. It includes a screening of a summary of the documentary “Atlantica,” which suggests that the remains found in Cádiz could be from Atlantis, followed by a round table with experts.
Tracing the Origins and Causes of Cancer
Date: April 23, 2025
Location: Meeting Place Orense 34, C/Orense 34, Madrid
Speaker: Dr. Francisco X. Real, Group of Epithelial Carcinogenesis, National Cancer Research Center (CNIO). The conference will focus on the origin of cancer from changes in the cellular genome sequence, the impact of these changes on cellular functions, and the fundamental role of carcinogens in this process. It will discuss the identification and control of carcinogens, as well as the importance of molecules and processes that are part of normal body functioning in cancer prevention and public health protection.
Vitamin D and Cancer
Date: May 12, 2025
Location: Meeting Place Orense 34, C/Orense 34, Madrid
Speakers:
- Dr. Jose Manuel Quesada, IMIBIC researcher and Honorary Professor at the University of Córdoba, Córdoba.
- Prof. Alberto Muñoz, CSIC Research Professor and President of the HM Hospitales Research Foundation.
The conference will discuss the emerging role of vitamin D in the prevention and treatment of various diseases, including cancer. It will cover the latest discoveries and controversies about its relationship with cancer, how lifestyle changes have led to vitamin D deficiency, and current recommendations on supplementation to maintain adequate levels. Recent findings on the influence of vitamin D on the risk and prognosis of different types of cancer will be explored, as well as the molecular mechanisms by which it could act as a preventive agent, offering new perspectives for future therapeutic strategies.
